Dipylidium caninum developing oncosphere in haemocoele of cat flea surrounded by adhering flea hemocytes as the flea larva reacts to the parasite at 20 degrees C and 9 days post infection. (h - oncospheral hook, en - encapsulated parasite). (Pugh 1985 PhD thesis). The cat flea is the intermediate host and dogs, cats and occasionally humans are the definitive hosts.
